Třebechovice pod Orebem

The Třebechovicko Microregion is situated in the picturesque foothills area amidst thick forests and crystal clear ponds on the confluence of the Rivers Orlice and Dědina. The centre of the Microregion is Třebechovice pod Orebem, the town of nativity scenes located under the historically important hill called Oreb. It is renowned even abroad thanks to the matchless carving work of Probošt’s Nativity Scene with a unique mechanism. In its vicinity there are various interesting tourist destinations. In the Krňovice Open-air Museum visitors can immerse themselves in the rural way of life of our predecessors through demonstrations of period trades and folk building structures. The dense network of cycleways that criss-cross the landscape will take you to different points of interest, such the “Emperor’s Water Spring” hidden in the meadow, or the little Romanesque church towering over the village of Vysoký Újezd, which the mysterious Sibyl’s prophecy of the end of the world is connected to, as well as one of the largest sand-pit ponds in our country - “Marokánka”. The beauty of the Orlice Natural Park encourages horse riding which can be arranged by the Blešno Ranch. One can admire the local scenery not only from the saddle of a horse, but also in a canoe. Canoeists can make use of a new mooring, which was built for them in Krňovice right next to a local restaurant. The wide offer of leisure activities also includes tennis courts and the town swimming area in Třebechovice pod Orebem. You can finish your visit to the Třebechovicko Microregion at the U Hušků Brewery, situated in Běleč nad Orlicí. Here you can enjoy traditional refreshments as well as the excellent home brewed Car beer.

Třebechovice pod Orebem
The town of Třebechovice pod Orebem, a place much sought after by tourists, is located on the confluence of the Rivers Orlice and Dědina, 13 km east of Hradec Králové.
There are a number of places of historical interest to be seen: Třebechovice Museum of Nativity Scenes, a historical centre with the Plague Column dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Holy Trinity statue and sandstone fountain with a water jet (from 1675), which was donated to the town by the Prague community in 1879 (originally it used to stand on Wenceslas Square in Prague), St. Andrew’s Church (from 1767), Neo-Romanesque evangelical church (built in 1880) and Krňovice Open-air Museum.

Třebechovice Museum of Nativity Scenes
Probošt’s Nativity Scene with a unique mechanism is the most valuable exhibit of the Třebechovice Museum of Nativity Scenes and the only one of its kind in the CR as well as in Europe. It was created by 3 Josefs, the wood-carvers Josef Probošt and Josef Kapucián and the mechanism designer Josef Friml. The entire nativity scene including the mechanism was made out of wood more than one hundred years ago. Stretching over an area of 7 x 3 x 2 metres, it incorporates more than two thousand carved figures and parts. This unique and priceless work is deservedly referred to as the “wooden gem”. Probošt’s Nativity Scene in Třebechovice is the only nativity scene in the Czech Republic declared national cultural heritage (in 1999).
In the autumn of 2010 the Municipality of Třebechovice pod Orebem – the founder of the Třebechovice Museum of Nativity Scenes, was successful in applying for a subsidy for the construction of a new Museum building from European Funds. Due to the construction of the new building and preparing the Třebechovice Nativity Scene for moving into alternative premises, the Třebechovice Museum of Nativity Scenes will be closed from May 2, 2011. The ceremonial opening of the new building is planned for June 2013.
